DAY 1-2: kampala to ENTEBBE

Just 40km from the capital of Kampala on the shores of Lake Victoria, this city is worth a stopover. Take a boat ride on Lake Victoria, visit the city’s botanical gardens or the the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre which is home to orphaned and rescued wildlife. A day or night here is an exciting, vibrant start to your Uganda Safari.

Day 2-4: KIBALE National Park

A short flight from Entebbe will take you to southern Uganda’s Kibale Forest which is known as “primate paradise”. Here you will stay in an intimate, luxury mountain lodge that will be your base for Chimpanzee tracking. Tracking starts early in the morning and you will trek for a few hours to find the Chimps before returning to your lodge for a delicious lunch. A walk in Bigodi, an eco-tourism swamp teeming with rare species of plants and animals is also an option.

Day 4-7: Queen elizabeth National Park

A scenic drive through banana forests, highlands and crater lakes will take you to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Your days here will be spent on game drives observing the magnificent wildlife of the park including Uganda’s famous tree climbing lions. Sundowners over the savannah plains, bush breakfasts and a boat cruise along the prehistoric Kazinga Channel will keep you mesmerised. Wallowing buffalo, nile crocodiles herds of elephant and much more gather at the banks of the Kazinga making game viewing really magical from the water.

Day 7-10: Bwindi Inpenetrable National Park

In my opinion, this is leaving the best until last. Bwindi is situated on the edge of the Albertine Rift Valley in south-western Uganda and dates back to the ice age. It is Uganda’s post precious eco-system with the country’s most diverse ecology. However, the star of the show here is the rare and endangered Mountain Gorilla. Gorilla Trekking can be a long, and hard task but the reward of coming face to face with these gentle giants is truly magical. Other excursions from here include meeting the Batwa, who are the original tribe of this region known as “the keepers of the forrest”.
